Enrichment Activities

At St Werburgh's, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our enrichment opportunities are carefully planned to inspire curiosity, develop confidence and create memories that last a lifetime.

Throughout the year, children take part in a wide range of exciting experiences that enhance and deepen the curriculum. From High Impact enrichment days and educational visits to sports day, themed curriculum weeks, competitions, performances and after-school clubs, every opportunity is designed to develop new skills, encourage teamwork and broaden children's horizons.

Our enrichment programme enables children to discover new interests, challenge themselves, celebrate their talents and develop resilience, independence and leadership. Whether representing the school in sporting events, performing on stage, exploring the local community or taking part in creative and STEM activities, every child is encouraged to achieve, belong and thrive.

These experiences are an important part of life at St Werburgh's, helping to bring learning to life while nurturing the whole child in line with our mission and Gospel values.

Sports Day

Our annual Sports Day is a celebration of teamwork, determination and personal achievement, where every child is encouraged to take part and do their very best. Through a range of fun and competitive events, children develop resilience, confidence and a lifelong enjoyment of being active.

Hi Impact- Enhancement Days

Our High Impact Curriculum Days provide exciting, hands-on learning experiences that inspire curiosity and deepen children's understanding across the curriculum. From STEM challenges using LEGO® SPIKE, heart dissections and pond dipping to a wide range of practical investigations and creative workshops, these memorable days encourage children to think critically, solve problems and develop a love of learning.

Links with our community

Visitors from our local community, including firefighters, police officers, dentists and other professionals, help bring learning to life by sharing their knowledge and experiences. These valuable visits inspire our children, promote community awareness and help them understand the important roles people play in keeping us safe, healthy and supported.

School Trips

Our History and Geography curriculum is enriched through carefully planned educational visits that bring learning to life. From exploring local parks, visiting libraries and taking walks around our local area to discovering historical landmarks and geographical features, these real-life experiences help children make meaningful connections with their classroom learning and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Whole School- themed weeks

Whole-school themed weeks, including Science Week, Anti-Bullying Week and Mental Health Awareness Day, bring our school community together through shared learning experiences and exciting activities. These special events celebrate our school values, promote wellbeing and inclusion, and encourage every child to develop new skills, build positive relationships and make lasting memories.

Performances

Performances are a treasured part of life at St Werburgh's, giving every child the opportunity to shine. From our EYFS and Key Stage 1 Christmas Nativity to our Year 6 end-of-year production, such as this year's wonderful performance of The Wizard of Oz, children build confidence, creativity and teamwork while creating lasting memories for families and the wider school community.

Outdoor Learning - Prayer Garden

Our outdoor learning opportunities make the most of our beautiful prayer garden, a peaceful natural space where children can explore, discover and learn through hands-on experiences. Whether taking part in curriculum activities, reflective prayer, nature-based learning or collaborative challenges, children develop curiosity, resilience and a deeper appreciation of God's world.

After School Clubs

We offer a wide range of free after-school clubs to ensure there is something for every child to enjoy. From science, coding and outdoor learning to sports, drama and many more exciting activities, our clubs provide opportunities to develop new skills, discover talents and build friendships, while remaining accessible to all families.

Enterprise Day

Our annual Enterprise Day gives every class the opportunity to develop creativity, teamwork and financial awareness through a real-life business challenge. Each year group designs and makes a product, decides on a selling price and then markets and sells it to other classes before using the profits to choose and enjoy a well-earned class treat.

Charity work

At St Werburgh's, we encourage children to live out our Gospel values by supporting a range of charitable events throughout the year. From CAFOD fundraising, including our annual Porridge Day, to Children in Need, charity walks and festive Elf Runs, our pupils learn the importance of compassion, generosity and making a positive difference to the lives of others.
