Celebrations and Special Events at St Werburghs…..
Throughout the year we love to get together to host celebrations and special events in school, in Church and within our local community….
Children’s Mental Health Day
Last year’s theme is linked to the Disney Pixar film, Inside out and is titled ‘Know yourself, Grow yourself’. The theme is all about encouraging children to build self-awareness.
Throughout the week, the children participated in a range of activities and will discuss ways to manage their emotions and who they can speak to, if they are struggling.
We are finished the week with an own clothes day -Dress to Express. All children (and staff!) were invited to use colour to express themselves by wearing a colourful outfit. All donations were sent to ‘Place2Be’.
Jubilee- Pilgrims of Hope Launch Day and Pledge Day
The children marked the start of the Jubilee year with an Art competition. They also completed a range of fundraising activities on our Jubilee Pledge Day!
Shrove Tuesday- Pancake Day
The children celebrated Shrove Tuesday by enjoying pancakes in the school hall.
Visits from the Shrewsbury Youth Team
The Shrewsbury Youth Team helped us mark Holy Week in a very special way.
Crowning of Mary in May
The whole school celebrated Mass outside. We all processed around the school field and brought flowers to Mary and placed them at her feet. Some of us wore flowers in our hair.
Come and Share
Each half term, we invite our parents and carers into classrooms to come and share the learning alongside their children. All year groups from our 2 Year olds to our Year 6’s have the opportunity to share their achievements and showcase their work to their parents and carers.
Welcoming ‘The Icon’-The Visitation
The whole school participated in a celebration of the word. We all sang the Marian hymn- ‘As I kneel before you’- as the image of Mary visiting her cousin, Elizabeth was placed on display at the front of the hall. We then pilgrimaged to Our Lady and St Edward’s Catholic Primary School to hand over the icon to their parish community.
World Porridge Day
World Porridge Day, celebrated annually on October 10th, is a campaign by the charity Mary's Meals to recognise the power of porridge to change children's lives and raise funds for its school feeding programs. Our children spent the morning making and selling porridge to raise vital funds to help Mary’s Meals deliver food to those most in need.
Visit from Bishop Mark
We were very pleased to welcome Bishop Mark to our school in October. Bishop Mark conducted a special assembly for our children. We presented the Bishop with a beautiful piece of artwork created by each and everyone of our children.
Remembrance Day
Our Year 6 children led us in our Remembrance Day assembly. We reflected upon the sacrifice others had made for our freedom and we prayed for their souls.
Our younger children created a fantastic piece of artwork.
Jubilee Celebration
Our whole school celebrated the end of the Jubilee year. We have spent the year being ‘Pilgrim’s of Hope’.
Our Nativity Play
Our EYFS and KS1 children did a spectacular job of retelling the birth of Jesus- we have some fantastic actors!
Whole School Mini Vinnie Event
Our whole school participated our Christmas Mini Vinnie event. Each year group designed and made Christmas cards for people who may be experiencing loss of loneliness over the Christmas period. Our student council then delivered our Christmas cards to the YMCA, local care homes and Arrowe Park Hospital.
Children in Need
Before Christmas, we organised a range of fundraising events to raise money for Children in Need.
Stay and Pray
Each term, each class invites their family to join them in their classroom for ‘stay and pray’. During this time, we pray together, discuss what we have been learning about in RE and also create something together to take home.
St Werburgh’s Feast Day
In February, we celebrate the feast day of St Werburgh. We learnt all about her life and celebrated all of the good things that she did. We made a pledge to live our lives as St Werburgh did. Each class also participated in an art competition- here are some of the shortlisted pieces!
St Werburgh’s Family Wellbeing Event
On the 9th October, we held a family wellbeing event at school, bringing together around 40 families and a range of local organisations to offer advice, guidance and practical support.
The event provided a welcoming space for parents and carers to access a variety of services all under one roof, making it easier for families to find the help and support they need without having to arrange separate appointments or travel to different locations.
Families also had the opportunity to visit our social supermarket in the school hall, which was stocked with a wide selection of food to provide additional practical support.
We were delighted to welcome representatives from Citizens Advice, Tomorrow’s Women, PositivTree, Crea8ing Communities, Wirral Family Hub Team, Intra Health, The Brain Charity, Branch Out In About, The Hive Youth Zone, Advanced Solutions, the NHS Mental Health Support Team, NHS Speech and Language Therapy Support Service, Autism Together, Sendlo, WEB Merseyside, Family Toolbox and Action for Children.
Bringing these organisations together gave families the opportunity to speak directly with professionals, ask questions and discover the range of support available within our local community.
At St Werburgh’s, we believe that working in partnership with our families is an important part of helping our children thrive. Events like this provide valuable opportunities to strengthen relationships, encourage parental engagement and ensure that families feel welcomed, supported and connected to the school.
We are committed to making our school a place where families feel comfortable seeking advice and accessing support whenever they need it. Today’s event was a wonderful opportunity to bring our community together and demonstrate the range of support available to our families.
We would like to thank all the organisations who joined us today, as well as the families who attended and helped make the event such a positive experience.
We look forward to hosting more events in the future and continuing to work together to support our children, families and wider community.
