Catholic Life and Mission
As a Christ centred community, we encourage each person to reach their full potential. At St Werburgh’s Catholic Primary School we teach our children to love one another. It is our Mission to support our wider community - especially those who are in need of our help and support.
St Werburgh’s Catholic Primary School is part of the parish of St Werburgh’s and St Laurence and is situated near to Birkenhead town centre.
St Werburgh’s supports the parish in many ways and our Parish Priest Father Ray works in partnership with us to support the religious life of the school. Children attend mass on Holy days and for other special celebrations. The children have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (First Forgiveness) and the Sacrament of Eucharist (First Holy Communion) during the Summer Term. Children attend Class Mass throughout the year and take part in our Advent and Lenten celebrations in school and in Church.
The children also visit the church as part of their curriculum RE lessons or for special school events.
We work in partnership with our parents to develop the religious and spiritual lives of their children and invite them to join us in whole school celebrations in Church and in school. We encourage parents to attend Mass regularly with their children to support their faith journey.
Preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist (First Forgiveness and First Communion) takes place in School and is led by the Year 3 teacher, Headteacher and Parish Priest. Parents are invited to enrol their children for preparation in the Autumn term of Year 3.
Seven Catholic Social Teaching Principles
Catholic social teaching (CST) is rooted in Scripture, formed by the wisdom of Church leaders, and influenced by grassroots movements. It is our moral compass, guiding us on how to live out our faith in the world.
The seven CST principles that we promote at St Werburgh’s Catholic Primary School are;
Our faith calls us to love God and to love our neighbours in every situation, especially our sisters and brothers living in poverty. Following in the footsteps of Christ, we hope to make present in our unjust and broken world, the justice, love and peace of God.
Some of the charities we regularly work with are;
Mini Vinnies
Mini Vinnies are part of the much larger organisation- the SVP. The motto of the Mini Vinnies is 'Turning Concern into Action'. We currently host Mini Vinnie events as a whole school, each half term. If you would like to find out more about the Mini Vinnies then why not have a look at their website, click the image below.
CAFOD
Our pupils know their place in God’s world and as citizens of a global community. For this reason, it is important to work together for the good of all. One of the charities we regularly support is Cafod - particularly during Lent.
Cafod reach out to people living in poverty with practical help, whatever their religion or culture. Through a global Church network, one of the largest in the world, they have the potential to reach everyone. Cafod campaign for global justice, so that every woman, man and child can live a full and dignified life. Click the image below to go to the Cafod website.
Mary’s Meals
Mary’s Meals provides life-changing school meals to children living in some of the world’s poorest communities. The promise of a good meal brings hungry children into the classroom, where they can gain an education and better opportunities for the future. Throughout the year we host fundraising events to raise vital funds for Mary’s Meals.
