Curriculum Overview & Guides
Curriculum Intent
At St Werburgh’s Catholic Primary School we are committed to providing all pupils with the knowledge, skills and ambition to succeed in life and to grow as global disciples of Christ.
Our curriculum is rooted in the teachings of the Gospel and is designed to be broad, balanced and ambitious for all. We pride ourselves on inclusivity and respect for all, celebrating diversity and ensuring equity of access. Through this, pupils gain an awareness and understanding of their shared and different cultural heritage, building the cultural capital they need to thrive in modern Britain and the wider world.
Our curriculum promotes self-worth, moral purpose and integrity, teaching pupils to make responsible choices that keep themselves and others safe, happy and healthy. Pupils develop strong character, resilience and independence, and understand the importance of their actions on their community and the world around them. In doing so, they grow as responsible citizens who live out the Gospel values in daily life.
Through carefully sequenced and well-planned learning, our curriculum builds knowledge and skills cumulatively, enabling pupils to know more, remember more and do more. It nurtures curiosity, fosters problem-solving and critical thinking, and develops secure communication skills. Rich in experience and opportunity, it promotes academic excellence and instils a love of lifelong learning.
Ultimately, our curriculum empowers every pupil to aspire highly, achieve their God-given potential, and make a positive difference to the world as they grow into compassionate, confident and resilient young people.
